The Evolution Of Human Resources

The definition of ‘professionalism’ has gradually shifted from which position you hold to how good you are at your work. Along the way, something may have been lost to the content of professionalism like non-substitutable expertise and legitimacy based on claims to an external authority. You know, everyone is substitutable these days, with all these new and evolved courses coming up and the acceptance of people towards change in the corporate world.

The organizational professional now is defined by deliverables, hierarchy, performance review and rational-legalism more than comradery, ethics and discretion (among others). For the HR practitioner, the latter encompasses the values, visions, ideals, norms, working language, systems, and habits of a group who work together. Great human resources employees develop and manage their company’s culture. They recruit new employees from MBA colleges in Pune, maintain benefits and payroll of the company, mediate conflict, and engage in training and development. Their role is at the very core of a company’s success.

Human resources specialists are responsible for recruiting, screening, interviewing and hiring human capital. Very often they also handle employee relations, payroll, benefits, and training. Human resources managers plan, direct, coordinate and oversee the administrative functions of an organization. They oversee specialists in their duties; consult with executives on strategic planning, and help in building and maintaining the vital link of a company’s management with its employees.

While HR specialists tend to focus on a single area, such as recruiting or training HR generalists, on the other hand, handle a number of areas and tasks simultaneously. Small companies with up to 200 employees will typically have two to three HR generalists on staff, while larger ones may have many specializing in particular areas and services.

Entering the human resources field with a bachelor’s degree like BBA or BCom gives you access to more options, including working in employee relations, HR information systems, training and development, labour relations or as compensation or benefit analyst. HR is now considered as an integral function that influences strategy at the highest level.

In the modern context, HR plays four important roles such as:

a) HR Business Partner: This is the prime role that exists. The HR business partner is the point-of-contact for individuals and is, therefore, the channel that most internal members of an organization will use to communicate with the Human Resources department.
b) Change Agent: This role deals with communicating the organization’s plan to expand, evolve, or otherwise alter its goals or objectives, internally in the company.
c) Administration Expert: This administration role is responsible for legislation, regulation, occupational health and safety rules, and other types of labour or trade law that exist nationally and internationally.
d) Employee Advocate/Employee Champion: This role in particular deals with safeguarding the employee’s interests and assuring their job protection.

It is a fact that the employees are the backbone of every organisation. All organisations rise upwards in the industry, only if it has the right and performing workforce and this is exactly where HR professionals’ role comes into play.
